I think perhaps this page, more than anything else, sums up the promise that is the "Internet" dba "the Web". It consists of links to sites that I visit frequently and that I personally feel is invaluable because of the knowledge that they share, wisdom they provide and inspiration that they evoke - A wonderful awakening for a weary soul. I am grateful but more than that, deeply thankful to all the contributors that make the internet a truly free and accessible knowledge resource.

 

BUSINESS RESOURCE
NASSCOM was set up in 1988 to facilitate business and trade in software and services and to encourage advancement of research in software technology. It is a not-for-profit organization, registered under the Indian Societies Act, 1860.
COMMUNITY RESOURCE
Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) is the world's first multi-stakeholder network promoting innovation and advancement in Knowledge and Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for Development. GKP brings together Public Sector, Private Sector and Civil Society organisations with the goal of Sharing Knowledge and Building Partnerships in Knowledge and ICT for Development. GKP activities and programmes foster the innovative application of knowledge and technology to address and solve development issues in four strategic themes - Access to Knowledge, Education, Poverty Reduction and Resource Mobilisation.

World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) was organized by the United Nations. The summit was organized in two phases. The first phase took place in Geneva from 10 to 12 December 2003 and the second phase took place in Tunis, from 16 to 18 November 2005. The objective of the first phase was to develop and foster a clear statement of political will and take concrete steps to establish the foundations for an Information Society for all, reflecting all the different interests at stake. The objective of the second phase was to put Geneva's Plan of Action into motion as well as to find solutions and reach agreements in the fields of Internet governance, financing mechanisms, and follow-up and implementation of the Geneva and Tunis documents.
ITU is the leading United Nations agency for information and communication technologies. As the global focal point for governments and the private sector, ITU's role in helping the world communicate spans 3 core sectors: radiocommunication, standardization and development. ITU also organizes TELECOM events and was the lead organizing agency of the World Summit on the Information Society.

UNDP is the UN's global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP advocates for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the concept of human development and the need to empower women. Its series of global, regional and country-focused Human Development Reports are a powerful advocacy tool with a focus on people-centered, inclusive, equitable and sustainable growth.

The portal renewingindia.org is maintained by Winrock International India. Winrock International India (WII) is a non-governmental organisation registered under the Indian Societies Act and is based in New Delhi. WII's mission is to "develop and implement solutions that balance the need for food, income and environmental quality", in every country and for all people..
Development Gateway Foundation is an international nonprofit organization with the mission to reduce poverty and enable change in developing nations through information technology. Development Gateway Foundation focuses their resources in three areas:

  • Effective government – enabling better aid management and coordination, and more efficient and transparent government procurement.
  • Knowledge sharing and collaboration – leveraging the Internet for online communications among development practitioners worldwide.
  • Local partner programs in nearly 50 countries – connecting developing country organizations into our mission and helping empower them to use ICT to scale up local development efforts.
This portal is designed to highlight successful ICT development projects around the world. The projects details how ICTs and internet in particular, are being used to bridge the digital divide. As one of the many initiatives that were started to prepare for the world summit on the information society (WSIS) and in accordance with the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, this portal provides insights into some of the ways in which ICTs can help traditional and marginalized societies transition into information societies.

WhatIs.com® is a knowledge exploration and self-education tool about information technology, especially about the Internet and computers. It contains over 4,500 individual encyclopedic definition/topics, a number of "Fast Reference" pages and learning tools. The topics contain about 12,000 hyperlinked cross-references between definition-topics and to other sites for further information. The site is constantly updated.
